Founded in 1994, Franklin Energy aims to build a more resilient and successful industry in Colorado by making energy efficiency more accessible to growers. For nearly three decades, we have helped utilities across the US and Canada implement energy efficiency programs in the commercial and industrial market. Here in Colorado, we implement and manage Xcel Energy’s Indoor Agriculture Business Energy Assessment (BEA) program, which helps growers take advantage of horticultural LED rebates.

Tell us about how your services work.

We help growers access cash rebates, up to $0.70 per Watt for installing qualified LED grow lights. Rebates for both retrofit and new construction horticultural grow lighting projects are available to all indoor cultivation businesses that use artificial light. Growers also receive no-cost technical support from our industry experts. We can help optimize production processes and identify ways to yield energy and cost savings. Participating growers will receive these services:

  • No-cost assessment to identify energy saving opportunities.
  • Assistance developing project specifications, evaluating equipment, and assessing contractor bids.
  • Advising to optimize production processes and the growth environment through the measurement and analysis of PPFD, Lighting Schedules, VPD (Electric Bill), Airflow, and more!]

How many employees are at your company?

There are over 3,000 people at Franklin Energy, but our indoor ag team consists of six local energy and cultivation experts with over 20 years of combined experience in the industry.

What made you want to start a company in this industry?

As former growers, we know the indoor ag industry is extremely competitive and energy-intensive, and that energy efficiency has been overlooked and underutilized since the industry’s inception. We want to keep these resources accessible to every business, not just the ones with engineers on staff.

Where can people go for your services?

For a free facility assessment, help analyzing technology, or to ask about rebates, contact our Program team via phone or email, or visit the assessment and rebate pages on our website.

Does your business give back to the community?

Giving back is our entire reason for being; all our time, effort, and expertise is a completely free resource for the industry. There’s no catch.

What makes your business important to the community?

Energy efficiency is so important to the environment. Our planet needs our help to stop the negative effects of human-induced climate change. Cannabis has never been a sustainability industry, but we can still reduce carbon emissions, cut costs, and produce amazing pot all at once. It’s a win/win for everyone, no?

As former growers, we know the indoor ag industry is extremely competitive and energyintensive… We want to keep these resources accessible to every business, not just the ones with engineers on staff.
