WHAT ARE THE BIG 3 IN ASTROLOGY?

If you know anything about astrology, chances are that at the very minimum, you know your sun sign. What about the other significant placements within your natal chart? Most astrologers refer to your three main placements within your chart as “The Big Three.” These placements combined, make up your personality. The big three are your sun, moon, and rising signs. So what does all of this mean?

THE ROLES THEY PLAY…

Your sun sign signifies when you were born within the 365-day calendar, and where that falls into the 12 zodiac houses. The sun sign represents your core self. Sun sign characteristics are broad and generalized, but typically accurate. Your moon sign represents your inner self and emotions. Your rising sign, also known as your ascendant, is all about your outer self, or how others view you.

CALCULATING THESE PLACEMENTS

Your natal chart is the easiest way to find your “Big Three”, plus all other placements as well! To find your birth chart details, you first have to know 3 simple things about yourself: What day and year you were born; what time you were born (to the minute); and what city and state you were born in. Once you have that information, you can plug that into an online astrology calculator that will pull up your chart information.

HOW THEY WORK TOGETHER

Every individual birth chart is as unique as a thumbprint and there is no “one size fits all.” Your sun, moon, and rising signs come together to form a most interesting combination of personality traits for yourself! Getting to know your “Big Three” helps you cultivate a deeper understanding of self and can be an invaluable tool for personal development, too!
