What is your mission?
The consumption of cannabis, both recreationally and medicinally, has been relegated to the shadows for far too long. With the ending of this prohibition and continuation of controls placed on cannabis’ consumption and responsible utilization, a new kind of recreation venue is needed. As this new market comes into the light the need for increasingly advanced research data and analytics about the products and market grows. Perhaps most importantly, as new consumers experience new products and new producers design them, the need for consumer education and enablement becomes more important than ever.


What made you choose to start a company in this industry?
We began as a small group of cannabis consumers, growers and vendors who were left needing more from our legal cannabis industry. The rollout of legal cannabis in NY has been incredibly slow but the demand for safe, accessible products has only increased during this time. Grey markets flourished as we consumers waited for legal dispensaries, attempting to fill the need. However, these unregulated markets lacked many aspects we sought as consumers and hopeful future applicants to the state program. We sought a way to bridge the gap to provide a legal alternative for consumer safety.

We started by just paying to safety test cannabis for growers at a NYS Licensed laboratory and giving away free samples of the tested product at pop-up events while providing shade from the elements and a place for shoppers to sit and enjoy their purchases. Soon, we were testing products regularly, collecting market research data, and securing a lease in Cheektowaga, NY.

Since opening our physical doors in April 2021, we’ve facilitated the safety testing of over 300 cannabis products, built a community of over 7000 members, and built a customizable, low-cost, comprehensive software solution to help start-up cannabis businesses like our own in an effort to help local business thrive and combat the influence of multi-state operators.

At the end of 2024, we submitted our Microbusiness License Application to The NYS Office of Cannabis Management and moved from our previous home on French Rd to beautiful Downtown Buffalo.

Why do you feel your business is important to the community?

Our business is proof of the power of New York consumers. Designed to build community and empower informed consumer decisions, The Roaring 420s Lounge exists to provide its members, from connoisseur to cultivator, the tools needed to thrive in a new legal industry.

We help battle stigma against cannabis users by representing the real adult users who shouldn’t have to hide their use or worry if the products they consume are safe. We are more than a club; we are a passionate community that wants to be heard. We are growers, cultivators, processors, medical card holders, veterans, students, parents and more. We are the Buffalo Cannabis Community.



How would you describe your company’s workplace culture? 

The Roaring 420s Lounge is 100% Volunteer-operated. As a non-profit private membership organization, all profits earned by the club are reinvested into the business. Our staff and officers give their time to support club operations because they believe in our mission.

Our staff come from every part of the cannabis community. From experienced consumers to cultivators, we learn and grow together through shared experience.

The Roaring 420s Lounge would not exist in its current form without the dedication of our team. Our volunteers work tirelessly to provide for their fellow members and we are eternally grateful to each and every one of them, past and present.
